Bangladesh got copies of as many as fifteen rare and historical movies from India as a token of goodwill and memorabilia in exchange of copy of the iconic film Devdas, made in 1935.
Director of National Film Archive of India (NFAI), Prakash Magdum handed over the copies of the movies like first ever full-length silent feature film made in Indian subcontinent “Raja Harishchandra”, first ever Bengali talkie “Jamai Shashthi”, Sukhdeb Singh directed “Nine Months to Freedom: The Story of Bangladesh” to visiting Bangladesh Information Secretary Martuza Ahmed on August 17, an official release said here on Wednesday.
Dr Mohommad Jahangir, director of Bangladesh Film Archive (BFA), was also present at the function held at NFAI office in Pune, India.
The information secretary is visiting Indian organizations like, NFAI, Film and Television Institute of India, Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute in Kolkata as part of his mission to increase contact with the world renowned institutes to develop the standards of local institutes like BFA and Bangladesh Film and Television Institute (BFTI).
“We have reached to a primary consensus in establishing a Memorandum of Understanding to ease the process of the exchange of films between the two nations,” Martuza said.
The information secretary is scheduled to return home tomorrow.
