Bangladesh National Football team left the capital for Kerala Sunday morning to participate in the seven-nation SAFF Suzuki Cup’2015 schedule to be held in Kerala, India from December 23 to January 3 eyeing on South Asian soccer title
Seven countries split into two groups-hosts India, Nepal, Sri Lanka (Group A) holders Afghanistan, Maldives, Bhutan, Bangladesh (Group B) will compete in the 12-day meet at the Trivandrum International Stadium in Kerala.
The SAFF Championship reduced to seven countries as Pakistan Football Federation withdrew their national team last month.
Sri Lanka will take on Nepal in the opening match of the biennial regional football tournament of South Asian countries on Wednesday (Dec 23) at 3:30 pm (local time) .
Bangladesh will start their campaign in the 11th SAFF Championship, to be known as the SAFF Suzuki Cup 2015, taking on holders Afghanistan on Thursday (Dec 24) at 6:30 pm (local time)
Earlier in press briefing on Saturday, Bangladesh captain Mamunul Islam Mamun promised to show their best performance in the South Asian mega football event.
“We are promising that we will show our best performance for our country. We did promise in front of our coaches 20 days before that we would do everything possible to win the title,” said Mamunul.
Bangladesh coach Maruful Haque expressed his optimism to clinch the title.
“When I took the responsibility 20 days ago I set a target to win the title of SAFF Championship, I have worked with the boys in 38 sessions and tried to prepare them physically and mentally, I have said my players to be in their best and the level of discipline they have showed in the camp makes me more optimistic, I have every faith upon them to win the title” said Maruf.
