Host Bangladesh finished 3rd in both the men’s and the women’s groups of the Sheikh Russel 2nd South Asian Roll Ball Championship concluded at Dhanmondi Abahani ground on Saturday.
India became champion in both the men’s and the women’s groups beating their rivals in the finals.
Pakistan men’s group finished runner-up while Nepal in the women’s group in the six-nation three-day meet.
In the final India men’s team beat Pakistan by 5-2 goals while India women’s defeated Nepal women’s by 7-1 goals.
Bir Pratap Singh of India became the highest scorer of the tournament while his compatriot Ajit Singh player-of-the-tournament.
In the men’s semifinal Bangladesh lost to India by 7-2 goals. They beat Nepal by 2-1 goals in the third place deciding match. In the women’s semifinal Bangladesh lost to Nepal by 7-0 goals.
Six teams-Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka (group-A), India, Pakistan and Nepal (Group B), split into two groups, took part in the men’s competition.
Three teams-Bangladesh, India and Nepal – competed in the women’s group.
The matches were held in Dhanmondi Abahani ground and Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.
Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh, MP distributed prizes among the winners as the chief guest at the closing ceremony while tournament gift partner Walton additional director FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Don as special guest.
Award partner ‘OK Mobile’ chairman Khandakar Jamil Uddin, BOA vice-president Harun-or-Rashid, general secretary of Bangladesh Roller Skating Federation and also president of Bangladesh Roll Ball Association Ahmed Asiful Hasan were also present.
