UNB, Dhaka :
Bangladesh U-16 Women’s team will take on stronger Iran in their last group B match of the AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship 2015 Qualifiers at Bangabandhu National Stadium at 5:00 pm today (Thursday).
Earlier, Bangladesh beat Jordan 1-0, mauled UAE 6-0 and lost to India 1-2 while Iran almost assured the Group B title of the tournament, still remaining unbeaten, as they beat UAE 9-0, India 2-1 and Jordan 6-1 in the five-team qualifying meet.
Iran is in the top position in the five-nation Group B table with perfect nine points. Indian secured the second slot with six points from three matches while home side Bangladesh is in third place also with six points from three matches and still have chance to win the qualifying ticket.
However, following the first defeat against India 2-1 on Sunday (October 19), Bangladesh U-16 Women’s Football Team head coach Golam Robbani Chhoton expressed the hope to bounce back in the match against Iran to book the final round ticket of the tournament. He voiced the hope while speaking at a post-match briefing at Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Jordan will play India in the first match on Thursday, also their last group match at 2:00 pm at the same venue.
Jordan took fourth position in the table with three points from three matches and lost their chance to qualify for the tournament, a fate they shared with the UAE who languish at bottom of the group having lost all their four matches.
All five teams are vying for the single ticket available from the group to play in the tournament final round that will be held in Wuhan, China, in November next year.
Two teams — Chinese Taipei and Korea Republic — have already qualified for the eight-nation competition while defending champions Japan, DPR Korea, China and Thailand are direct entrants having finished in the top four in the last edition.
The champions and runners-up in Wuhan will fly the Asian flag at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2016 in Jordan.
