Second Test against NZ: Bangladesh face daunting task

Bangladesh faced a daunting task to avoid defeat as they were all out for a meager 126 in the first innings on the second day of the second Test against New Zealand at Christchurch in New Zealand on Monday.
Earlier, the Kiwis declared their first innings after piling up 521 for the loss of six wickets on the second day.
Bangladesh trailed by 395 runs.
New Zealand resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 349 for the loss of one wicket.
Tom Latham and Devon Conway resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 186 and 99 runs respectively.
Devon Conway could add more 10 runs on the second day. Conway knocked a superb 109 playing 166 balls with 12 fours and a sixer before Conway was run out by a direct throw of Mehidy Hasan Miraz when New Zealand’s score was 363 for the loss of two wickets. It was Conway’s third century in Test cricket.
After Conway’s dismissal, Tom Latham and Ross Taylor put on together 48 runs for the third wicket partnership before Taylor (28) was caught at the square leg by Shoriful Islam off Ebadot Hossain when New Zealand’s total was 411 for the loss of three wickets.
After Taylor’s departure, third-down Henry Nicholls (0) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan off Ebadot Hossain when the hosts’ total was 414 for the loss of four wickets.
Fourth-down Daryl Mitchell (3) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan off Shoriful Islam when the Black Caps’ score was 423 for the loss of five wickets.
After Mitchell’s dismissal, Tom Latham and Tom Blundell scored together 76 runs in the six-wicket partnership before Latham was caught at the square leg by Yasir Ali off Mominul Haque when the Kiwis total was 499 for the loss of six wickets.
Latham played a captain’s knock of 252. He hit 34 fours and two sixes in his terrific innings. It was Latham’s second double century in Test cricket.
Tom Blundell remained unbeaten with 57, while Kyle Jamieson remained unbeaten with 4 runs.
It was Blundell’s third half-century in Test cricket.
Shoriful Islam and Ebadot Hossain bagged two wickets each conceding 79 and 143 runs respectively.
Later, Yasir Ali and Nurul Hasan were the two batters of Bangladesh who could reach double digit figures.
Yasir Ali made 55 from 95 balls featuring seven fours. It was Yasir Ali’s maiden half-century in Test cricket.
Nurul Hasan scored 41 from 62 deliveries with six fours.
Trent Boult captured five wickets at the cost of 43 runs, while Tim Southee grabbed three wickets in the space of 28 runs and Kyle Jamieson bagged two wickets for 32 runs.
