Bangladesh’s hope of playing in the third round vanished into blue as they suffered a shocking 2-3 goal defeat to Oman in their last group phase engagement held on Tuesday at Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in the city.
In the day’s match, Bangladesh launched early attacks in the 2nd minute, but Jimmy & Co. failed to take lead despite finding the Oman custodian helpless in front of the bar.
Bangladesh had to wait a little longer to take the lead as Chayan gave Bangladesh a deserving goal converting a penalty corner in the 8th minute of the match.
However Bangladesh’s lead did not last long as Oman restored the parity in the 15th minute. The first quarter ended in a 1-1 goal draw.
Bangladesh’s skipper Russel Mahmud Jimmy launched series of attacks in the beginning of second quarter and provided the lead for Bangladesh with a brilliant goal (2-1).
Oman again leveled the margin in the 10th minute of the second quarter (2-2) and two minute later Oman finally sealed the victory, leaving the home crowds in a mood of despair (3-2).
