Bangladesh Under-19 team emerged plate champions in the ICC Under-19 World Cup beating New Zealand by 77 runs in the final at the Sheikh Abu Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
Sent into bat first, the Young Tigers made a good start scoring 124 runs in the 2nd wicket stand by opener Shadman Islam and one down Litton Das, despite losing the other opener Joyraz Sheikh (5) cheaply for 21/1 in 6.4 overs.
Eventually, Bangladesh were all out for 223 in 47 overs due to middle and lower order collapse.
Litton Das contributed 75-ball 79 runs with 10 fours and a six before he was caught by wicket keeper Tim Seifert off a Dane Watson delivery, leaving team total 145 for 2 in 27.2 overs.
Opener Shadman Islam played an entertaining innings of 97 runs off 113 balls that featured 13 fours, but unfortunately he returned to the dressing room, bowled by Henry Callier just three short of century with scoreboard showing 215 for 7 in 43.5 overs.
Yasir Ali was the other notable Bangladesh batsman who scored 15 runs off 17 balls. The remaining seven Bangladesh batsmen failed to reach double figures. BG Randell and DL Watson took two wickets each for 22 and 49 runs respectively.
Chasing a moderate target, the Kiwis Youth team made a frustrating start as they lost wickets at regular interval and scored 89 for 8 in 33.5 overs. However, late heroics by lower order Randell reduced the margin of the Kiwis defeat as they were restricted to 146 for 9 in stipulated 50 overs.
Number nine batsman Randell contributed the team highest 51 not out off 68 balls with six boundaries.
Besides, S Hicks (23), HDR Collier (16), RK Weerasundara (12) and DL Watson (11) were the other major contributors for New Zealand.
Mosaddek Hossain claimed four wickets for 23 runs, Nihaduzzaman grabbed two wickets for 23 runs while captain Mehedy Hasan, Saeed Sarkar and Yasir Ali took one wicket apiece.
