Bangladesh were dismissed for a paltry 106 in the first innings by hosts India on the first day of the first Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the former capital city of India on Friday.
Earlier, Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Benarjee inaugurated the Day/ Night Test by ringing the bell. It may be mentioned that both teams have played the Day/ Night Test match as well as pink-ball Test for the first time in their Test history.
Bangladeshi batsmen failed to build any notable partnership against the superb bowling attack of India.
Opener Imrul Kayes (4) was trapped leg before wicket by Ishant Sharma when Bangladesh’s score was just 15.
One-down Mominul Haque (0) was caught at the second slip by Rohit Sharma off Umesh Yadav when the tourists’ total was 17 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Mohammad Mithun (0) was bowled out by Umesh Yadav when the visitors’ score was 17 for the loss of three wickets.
Third-down Mushfiqur Rahim (0) was bowled out by Mohammad Shami when Bangladesh’s total was 26 for the loss of four wickets.
Opener Shadman Islam was caught behind by wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha off Umesh Yadav when the team’s score was 38 for the loss of five wickets.
Shadman made 29 from 52 balls featuring five fours.
Fourth-down Mahmudullah Riyad (6) was caught behind by Wriddhiman Saha off Ishant Sharma when Bangladesh’s score was 60 for the loss of six wickets.
After departure of Riyad, Liton Das was retired hurt when Bangladesh’s score was 73 for the loss of six wickets.
Liton hit 24 from 27 balls including five fours.
Seventh-down Ebadot Hossain (1) was bowled out by Ishant Sharma when Bangladesh’s total was 82 for the loss of seven wickets.
After dismissal of Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (8) was caught at the mid-wicket by Cheteshwar Pujara off Ishant Sharma when Bangladesh’ score was 98 for the loss of eight wickets.
Number-11 batsman Abu Jayed (0) was caught at the first slip by Cheteshwar Pujara off Mohammad Shami when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Ishant Sharma bowled extremely well and captured five wickets at the cost of only 22 runs.
Umesh Yadav grabbed three wickets instead of 29 runs, while Mohammed Shami bagged two wickets for 36 runs.
