Bangladesh women’s cricket team crushed Thailand by nine wickets in the six-nation ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup at Kinrara Academy Oval, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday.
Coming from behind with six wickets loss to Sri Lanka in the first game, Bangladesh maintained the winning spree in the tournament by registering third win on the day against Thailand, following their maiden victory against India by seven wickets and by a same margin against Pakistan.
Bangladesh chased down the target, scoring 62 for 1 in 11.1 overs after restricting Thailand on 60 for 8 in 20 overs.
Ayasha Rahman [25* off 28b; 2×4; 1×6] and Nigar Sultana [25* off 28b; 3×4; 1×6] shared a partnership of 54* off 9 overs in the 2nd wicket to shore the win.
Ayasha-N Sultana started their composures after the dismissal of opener Shamima Sultana [8 off 13b; 1×4] on 8/1 in 2.1 overs. S Sultana was caught by Thai skipper Sornnarin Tippoch off pacer Chanida Sutthiruang.
Nattaya Boochatham [15 off 21b; 2×4], number-nine batter Sirintra Saengsakaorat [14 off 17b; 1×4] and Sornnarin Tippoch [13* off 29b] were double digit scorers for the losing team.
Bangladesh skipper Salma Khatun got two wickets for an economic six-run in four overs and was adjudged player of the match. Nahida Akter (2/10), Rumana Ahmed (1/9), Fahima Khatun (1/9), Jahanara Alam (1/10) and Khadija Tul Kubra (1/14) shared six wickets for Bangladesh.
After the huge margin win on the day, Bangladesh collected six points from four outings to get the 2nd spot. With the same win-loss record, Pakistan at the lead in the table by virtue of more net run rate.
Having identical four points each from their three matches apiece, Indians are in the 3rd slot ahead of the Sri Lanka by virtue of more net run rate.
Recording one win against three losses from four outings, Thailand got the 5th spot while hapless Malaysia remained as bottom-runner failing to collect any points from four matches.
Bangladesh will take on host Malaysia at the same venue on June 9 in their only remaining match, which will be a must-win affair for Bangladesh’s final berth if, India and Sri Lanka win their matches against Pakistan and Thailand respectively.
The final game will be held on June 10 at Kinrara Academy Oval.
