Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket team crushed Scotland National Women’s Cricket team by seven wickets in the ICC Women’s World Cup (WWC) Qualifier at Colombo Cricket Club Ground in Sri Lanka on Friday.
Chasing Scotland’s total of 140 off 49.1 overs, Bangladesh romped home making 143 for the loss of three wickets when they had 75 balls to spare.
Bangladesh made a shaky start as they lost opener Sharmin Sultana (15) when Bangladesh’s total was 26.
After departure of Sharmin Sultana, one-down Sanjida Islam could stay at the crease for a short period as she (3) was bowled out by K McGill when Bangladesh’s score was 32 for the loss of two wickets.
Then Sharmin Akhter and Fargana Hoque repaired the damage adding together 36 runs for the third wicket partnership before Sharmin Akhter was caught by KL Gordon off RV Scholes when the Tigresses’ total was 68 for the loss of three wickets.
After dismissal of Sharmin Akhter, Fargana Hoque and Rumana Ahmed put on together 75 runs in the unbroken fourth wicket partnership and reached the winning spot.
Fargana Hoque remained unbeaten with 53. Her 109-ball innings was belted with eight fours.
Rumana Ahmed remained unbeaten with 38. Her 46-ball innings was laced with six fours.
Sharmin Akhter scored 22 from 41 balls featuring two fours.
RV Scholes, KE Bryce, K McGill took one wicket each conceding 27, 33 and 33 runs respectively.
Earlier, K Anderson was the only cricketer of Scotland who resisted Bangladesh bowling attack. She made 28 from 57 balls including four fours.
Salama Khatun, Khadiza Tul Kubra grabbed three wickets each at the cost of 21 and 31 runs respectively, while Rumana Ahmed bagged a pair of wickets instead of 24 runs.
Jahanara Alam, Panna Ghosh took one wicket each for 11 and 38 runs respectively.
Rumana Ahmed was adjudged the Player of the Match for her all-round performance.
