Bangladesh clinch series win over West Indies

Bangladesh clinched the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-West Indies ODI series 2-0 after thrashing the Caribbeans by seven wickets in the second One Day International (ODI) match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Friday.
Electing to bat first, the visitors scored 148 runs in 43.4 overs.
In reply, the home team coasted home making 149 runs for the loss of three wickets only with 100 balls to spare. The third and last ODI match between Bangladesh and West Indies will be held at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on January 25.
Bangladesh made a modest start with openers Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal contributing together 30 runs before Liton Das (22) was trapped leg before wicket by Akeal Hosein.
Then Tamim Iqbal and Najmul Hossain Shanto repaired the damage adding together 47 runs for the second wicket partnership before Shanto (17) was caught at the short midwicket by Kjorn Ottley off Jason Mohammed when Bangladesh’s score was 77 for the loss of two wickets.
After Shanto’s dismissal, Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan put up a worthy 32 runs in the third wicket stand before Tamim Iqbal was caught behind by Joshua Da Silva off Raymon Reifer when the home side’s total was 109 for the loss of three wickets.
Tamim Iqbal played a captain’s knock of 50 runs. He hit three fours and a sixer in his 76-ball knock. It was Tamim’s 48 ODI half-centuries.
After Tamim’s departure, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim powered Bangladesh to cruise to the target.
Shakib remained unbeaten with 43. His 50-ball innings was studded with four fours. Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with nine runs. Raymon Reifer, Jason Mohammed and Akeal Hosein took one wicket apiece.
Earlier, most of West Indies batsmen failed to stop the Bangladesh bowlers from flying in the sky. Mehidy Hasan Miraz captured four wickets at the cost of 25 runs, while Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan bagged two wickets each for 15 and 30 runs respectively.

Hasan Mahmud took one wicket conceding 54 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Rovman Powell fought back against superb bowling attack of Bangladesh hitting a polished 41. He struck two fours and a six in his 66-ball innings.
West Indies had a shaky start as opener Sunil Ambris (6) was caught at the gully by Mehidy Hasan Miraz off Mustafizur Rahman when the visitors’ score was just 10.
Kjorn Ottley, the other opener of West Indies was caught at the extra cover by Tamim Iqbal off Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the tourists’ total was 36 for the loss of two wickets.
Ottley made 24 from 44 balls featuring two fours and a sixer.
One-down Joshua Da Silva (5) was bowled out by Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the Caribbeans team’s score was 37 for the loss of three wickets. Second-down Andre McCarthy (3) was bowled out by Shakib Al Hasan when West Indies’ total 39 for the loss of four wickets.
Number-6 batsman Kyle Mayers (0) was run out by a joint-efforts of Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiur Rahim when the islanders’ score was 41 for the loss of five wickets.
Skipper Jason Mohammed (11) was trapped leg before wicket by Shakib Al Hasan when the Caribbeans team’s total was 67 for the loss of six wickets.
Five-down Nkrumah Bonner (20) was bowled out by promising pacer Hasan Mahmud when West Indies’ score was 71 for the loss of seven wickets.
Number-9 Raymon Reifer (2) was trapped leg before wicket by Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the touring side’s total was 88 for the loss of eight wickets.
Then Rovman Powell and Alzarri Joseph made a notable partnership. They piled up on together 32 runs in the ninth wicket partnership before Joseph (17) was caught at the gully by Liton Das off Mustafizur Rahman when the visitors’ score was 120 for the loss of nine wickets.
Rovman Powell was stumped out by Mushfiqur Rahim off Miraz and West Indies innings was concluded.
