Bangladesh Women’s Football team clinched the SAFF Women’s Championship trophy defeating Nepal Women’s Football team by 3-1 goals in the final at Dasharath Rangasala Stadium in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal on Monday. Bangladesh Women dominated the match and earned the historic victory. This is for the first time Bangladesh emerged the champions of the SAFF Women’s Championship, the most prestigious football meet of the South Asian Region for women.
Bangladesh led the first half 2-0.
Shamsunnahar (Junior) of Bangladesh put her team ahead by a placing shot using a right side cross of her teammate Monika Chakma in the 13th minute of the play.
Krishnarani Sarkar of Bangladesh doubled the margin by a power-packed shot capitalising a through pass of her teammate Sabina Khatun in the 42nd minute of the game.
After the lemon-break, Anita of Nepal reduced the margin by a right-footer in the 70th minute of the clash.
Krishnarani Sarkar sealed the fate of the match (3-1) by a spectacular shot after getting a pass of her teammate Monika Chakma in the 77th minute.
Earlier, Maria Manda of Bangladesh struck a forceful long-range shot was gripped by Nepal goalie in the early second minute.
In the 36th minute of the match, Nepal got a chance but Indira Raj’s free-kick was saved by Bangladesh custodian Rupna Chakma. Rupna Chakma showed a superb display and gave contribution for the much-waited victory.
After the intermission, Nepalese substitute Sabitra arrived at the rain-soaked field. In the 68th minute of the match, Sabitra’s shot was saved by Bangladesh goalie Rupna Chakma.
Before today’s match, Bangladesh faced Nepal in eight occasions. Of them, Nepal won six games and two matches were ended in draws. But yesterday, Bangladesh broke all the record and secured the historic victory.
Captain of Bangladesh Women’s Football team Sabina Khatun scored eight goals in this tournament. She is the highest scorer and best player of the football meet.
