Bangladesh Cricket team clinched the One Day International (ODI) series 2-0 remaining one match against Afghanistan Cricket team after thrashing the tourists by 88 runs in the second ODI match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Friday.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 306 for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 50 overs and then bundled out Afghanistan for 218 off 45.1 overs.
Bangladesh had a modest start as opener Tamim Iqbal (12) was trapped leg before wicket by Fazalhaq Farooqi when Bangladesh’s score was 38.
After Tamim’s dismissal, opener Liton Das and one-down Shakib Al Hasan put on together 45 runs for the second wicket partnership before Shakib Al Hasan (20) was trapped leg before wicket by Rashid Khan when the hosts’ total was 83 for the loss of two wickets.
After Shakib’s departure, Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim built a record-breaking 202 runs in the third wicket stand before Liton Das was caught at the deep
square leg by Mujeeb Ur Rahman off Fareed Ahmed when Bangladesh’s score was 285 for the loss of three wickets. This is the highest third wicket partnership for Bangladesh.
Liton Das notched up a terrific 136. His 126-ball innings was studded with 16 fours and two sixes. Liton Das fulfilled his fifth ODI century using 107 balls with 14 fours. Liton Das was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding batting performance.
After Liton’s dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the third man by Fazalhaq Farooqi off Fareed Ahmed when the hosts’ total was 285 for the loss of four wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim hit a splendid 86. He hit nine fours in his 93-ball innings. Mushfiqur Rahim reached his ODI fifty-run landmark playing 56 deliveries including six fours. It was Mushfiqur Rahim’s 41st ODI half-century.
Fareed Ahmed bagged two wickets at the cost of 56 runs, while Rashid Khan and Fazalhaq Farooqi took one wicket each conceding 54 and 59 runs respectively.
Later, third-down Najibullah Jadran, opener Rahmat Shah, fourth-down Mohammad Nabi and sixth-down Rashid Khan fought back against the superb bowling attack of Bangladeshi bowlers.
Taskin Ahmed and Shakib Al Hasan bagged two wickets each instead of 31 and 38 runs respectively.
Afif Hossain, Mahmudullah Riyad, Shoriful Islam, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman took one wicket each for naught, two, 35, 52 and 53 runs respectively.
Najibullah Jadran hit a respectable 54. His 61-ball innings was decorated with seven fours.
Rahmat Shah notched up a notable 52. His 71-ball knock saw four fours.
Mohammad Nabi made 32 from 40 balls featuring three fours.
Rashid Khan scored 29 from 26 deliveries including three fours and a sixer.
