Bangladesh beat West Indies by 64 runs in the first Test on the third day at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday and thus are one up, meaning the host have no chance to lose the series.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh piled up a comfortable 324 in the first innings on the second day (Thursday).
In return, West Indies scored 246 in the first innings the same day.
But, Bangladesh flopped in their 2nd innings and made 125 only on the third day (Saturday) and then bundled out West Indies for 139 in the second innings on the same day.
Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the overnight score of 55 for the loss of five wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz resumed their second innings with the overnight score of 11 and naught respectively.
But Mushfiqur Rahim could add eight runs only as he (19) was cleanly bowled out by Shannon Gabriel when the team’s total was 69 for the loss of six wickets.
Then Miraz (18) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich off Devendra Bishoo when the hosts’ score was 106 for the loss of seven wickets.
Mahmudullah Riyad fought back making 31 from 46 balls. He hit one four and one six before he was caught at the slip by Shai Hope off Devendra Bishoo when Bangladesh’s score was 123 for the loss of nine wickets.
Earlier, Nayeem Hasan (5) was caught at the slip by Hope off Bishoo when Bangladesh’s score was 122 for the loss of eight wickets.
Then Taijul Islam (1) was caught at the long-on by Jomel Warrican off Roston Chase when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Bishoo captured four wickets at the cost of 26 runs, while Roston Chase grabbed three wickets giving away of 18 runs and Warrican bagged a couple of wickets for 43 runs.
Later, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam bowled a devastating spell and completed his tremendous bowling spell as 11.2-2-33-6.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib gave him a good support in demolishing Caribbean second innings bagging a pair of wickets each for 27 and 30 runs respectively.
Sunil Ambris and Jomel Warrican resisted superb bowling attack of Bangladesh.
Ambris made 43 from 62 balls featuring four fours.
Warrican hit 41 off 55 balls including three fours and one six.
Prolific Mominul Haque notched up a splendid 120 in first innings. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding batting performance.
