Under-19 cricket: Bangladesh beat South Africa by 45 runs to take 5-1 lead

Hosts Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team smartly took a 5-1 lead in the seven-match Youth ODI series against touring South Africa Under-19 side in the 6th match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Tuesday. Bangladesh beat South Africa by 45 runs.
The Young Tigers batted first after winning the toss and were all out for 219 runs in 46.2 overs featuring 138 runs in the 4th wicket stand by Shafiul Hayet and Mehedy Hasan.
After the dismissal of top three batsmen-Saif Hasan (1), Pinak Ghosh (15) and captain Nazmul Hossain Shanta (18) -for 44 runs in 9.5 overs, two down batsman Shafiul Hayet pairing with number five Mehedy Hasan repaired the early damage to carry team total to 182 runs.
Shafiul Hayet contributed the match highest 83 runs off 96 balls featuring five fours and one six while Mehedy Hasan scored 78-ball 57 runs, also hitting five fours and one six.
D Foxcroft grabbed three Bangladesh wickets for 44 runs in his 8.2 overs while L Senokwane took two wickets for 51 runs.
In reply, Proteas youth team were dismissed for 174 runs in 45.1 overs with opener R Moonsamy making the team highest 61 runs off 78 balls including six boundaries.
Besides, series consistent performer AD Galiem (36), D Foxcroft (26), PWA Mulder (18) and L Ngidi (not out 10) were the major contributors for South Africa reaching the double figures.
Saleh Ahmed Shawon, the best performer of Bangladesh in the series, picked up five wickets conceding 25 runs in 7.1 overs spell and was adjudged man of the match while Nihiduzzaman took three wickets for 23 runs in eight overs.
Bangladesh will play their remaining 7th Youth ODI match against South Africa on April 23 at the same venue.
