Bangladesh announces 60% hike in bus fares

Bangladesh government on Sunday announced a 60% hike in fares for long-haul buses and minibuses to cover losses for transport owners hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Road Transport and Highways Division on Sunday announced the decision while the experts and stakeholders criticising widely about the BRTA’s recommendation to raise transport fares by 80 percent showing that reason.
Buses are set resuming operations on Monday after a two-month nationwide lockdown despite fears that reopening the country could surge the coronavirus spread.
Transport services, however, will operate at half the passenger capacity to maintain social distancing.
Train and river transport services also resumed on Sunday with limited scale passengers.
