Touring Bangladesh A team maintained their winning run in Zimbabwe tour beating the home side by 14 runs in the first match of the two-match unofficial Test series on the 4th and final day at the Harare Sports Club ground on Thursday.
With the day’s feat, the 2nd string Bangladesh team took a 1-0 lead against their Zimbabwean counterparts in the two-match four-day first class series after whitewashing the home side in the three-match unofficial ODI series.
Needing just 144 runs to win, the 2nd string Zimbabwean team resumed the 2nd innings Thursday morning with overnight score 21 for 3 and were bundled out for 129 runs in 39.5 overs against superb bowling by pacer Mohammad Shahid, who claimed five wickets for 45 runs.
After the dismal performances of top and middle order batsmen, leaving team total 59 for 8 in 23.3 overs, lower order batsmen pairing with RP Burl made two good partnerships in the 9th and 10th wicket stands to carry the team score hundred plus runs.
Number six RP Burl pairing with number nine N M’shangwe scored 36 runs in the 9th wicket stand while he partnering with tail-ender UM Nyauchi made 34 runs in the 10th wicket stand.
RP Burl, who scored 78 runs in the first innings, made the team’s highest not out 36 runs off 74 balls, with four fours, number 10 N M’shangwe made 20-ball 27 runs with five fours, number 11 UM Nyauchi scored 28-ball 16 with two fours while Vusi Sibanda and DT Pripano scored 15 runs each.
Apart from Mohammad Shahid five-wicket haul, Saqlain Sajib grabbed three wickets for 30 runs.
