Bangladesh led by eight runs in the first innings against West Indies at the close of the first day play of the first Test at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua on Thursday.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh were all out for 103 in their first innings.
In reply, West Indies were at the stumps at 95 for the loss of two wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan played a captain’s knock of 51. He used 67 deliveries hitting six fours and a sixer. It was Shakib Al Hasan’s 28th half-century in Test cricket.
Besides, Tamim Iqbal scored 29 from 43 balls featuring four fours. Tamim Iqbal scored 5010 runs playing 68 Test matches. Mushfiqur Rahim is the first Bangladesh batter who crossed the 5000-run landmark in Test cricket. Tamim Iqbal is now the second Bangladesh batter who crossed the 5000-run landmark.
Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph captured three wickets each instead of 33 runs each.
West Indies had a modest start as openers Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell added together 44 runs in the opening stand before John Campbell (24) was bowled out by left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman.
After Campbell’s removal, Kraigg Brathwaite and Rayman Reifer put on together 28 runs for the second wicket partnership before Rayman (11) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan off Eabadot Hossain when the Caribbeans’ score was 72 for the loss of two wickets.
After Rayman’s departure, Kraigg Brathwaite and Nkrumah Bonner contributed together 23 runs in the unbroken third wicket partnership before the bails were drawn for the first day.
Brathwaite remained unbeaten with 42 runs. He hit four fours in his 149-ball innings.
Nkrumah Bonner remained unbeaten with 12 runs.
Mustafizur Rahman and Ebadot Hossain took one wicket each for 10 and 18 runs respectively.
