The United States on Tuesday hoped that the partnership between Dhaka and Washington would continue to expand towards ‘new directions’ in 2016 strengthening the bilateral ties further.
“We expect that the US-Bangladeshi partnership will continue to expand towards new directions in 2016 and look forward to the growth of the bilateral relationship,” US Embassy Spokesperson Nancy VanHorn told UNB confirming that ‘professional staff’ from the US Senate are now in city.The two officials are senior professional staff member of Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Carolyn M Leddy and senior adviser for International Economics and Trade of Senate Committee on Foreign Relations D Andrew Olson.
She also said, another delegation of the US Department of State’s Counterterrorism Bureau will separately be visiting Dhaka soon. On the purpose of the visits, Nancy, without mentioning the names of the officials, said the two delegations will review key elements of Bangladesh-US bilateral cooperation, including ‘robust collaboration’ on security issues.
The Spokesperson also said, the US Embassy regularly hosts US government officials visiting Bangladesh to meet their Bangladeshi counterparts on issues ranging from security to trade to human rights.
Foreign Ministry sources said the US Senate staff will meet Director General (Americas Wing) Abida Islam and other government officials and discuss various issues during their three-day visit.
Meanwhile, the delegation of the Bureau of Counterterrorism under the US State Department will be here on January 9, said the source.
