Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) has constructed Baizid Loop Road and Patenga Ring Road for smooth traffic from Baizid to Patenga.
Hasan bin Shams , Chief Engineer, CDA said that as a result of the construction of these two roads, common people can travel from the city to Patenga and the airport within a short period of time. But the Bangla Bazar section of Baizid and Faujdarhat (Dhaka-Chittagong highway) is constantly causing traffic jams. We had planned to make a U loop there to ease this traffic jam. The Roads and Highways Department has objected in this case. They told us, here they are taking up a project and under this project the road will be widened.
He also said that about three years ago, the Roads and Urban Development Department had written to the CDA for the U-loop in the Baizid-Fouzdarhat section.
But nowadays, traffic jams and accidents are constantly happening at this junction. So there is a need to construct a U loop there in quick time. The completion of the Mirsrai Economic Zone will increase traffic pressure. Besides, when the Bangabandhu Tunnel opens next November-December, the traffic pressure here will increase several times compared to the present. So some action must be taken now, CE added.
