Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Wednesday said Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib used to give courage and inspiration to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the time of every crisis.
“Bangamata played a major role in the political success of Father of the Nation and helped him to become Bangabandhu,” she said, addressing a discussion arranged in observance of the 88th birth anniversary of Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib at the Jatiya Press Club (JCP).
Women Journalists Network, Bangladesh (WJNB) organized the discussion titled ‘Bangaleer Mukti Songgrame Fazilatunnesa Mujib’ with JPC General Secretary Farida Yeasmin in the chair.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Abul Kalam Azad, former Chief Information Commissioner Professor Dr Golam Rahman, the daily Bangladesher Khabar Editor Azizul Islam Bhuiyan and Fazilatunnesa Bappi, MP, among others, addressed the discussion.
Chaudhury said Bangamata is an inspiration for all women of the country. Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib was not directly involved in politics, but in the absence of Bangabandhu, she used to give directives to Bangladesh Awami League.
In every crisis period of AL, Bangamata helped Bangabandhu to take the right decisions by standing beside him, Chaudhury said, adding Bangamata also played a role in denying the parole of Bangabandhu granted by the Pakistani rulers to join the roundtable conference in Pakistan when the Six-Point Movement rose to its peak after 1968.
“Independence of Bangladesh would have never come if Bangabandhu went to Pakistan on parole,” she added.
Chaudhury said, “Bangamata, as a woman and a wife, had no demand in her life. She always led a simple life like the common people of Bangladesh.”
