Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday said great woman Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Nesa Mujib played a unique role in establishing the rights of the Bengali nation, reports BSS.
“She was the shadow companion of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during the country’s liberation struggles. Bangamata is a brighten example of the indomitable courage and political wisdom of a woman,” the speaker said.
Dr Shirin made the remarks while addressing a discussion and sewing machines distribution ceremony virtually at Pirgonj Upazila Auditorium in Rangpur marking the 91st birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Nesa Mujib, said a press release here.
Pirgonj Upazila Chairman Nur Mohammad Mandol and Municipality Mayor ASM Tazimul Islam Shameem addressed the discussion, among others, with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biroda Rani Ray in the chair.
Noting that Bangamata herself is a unique example of political empowerment (of women), the speaker said while Bangabandhu was imprisoned in jail, Bangamata had worked with her prudent talent to continue the (liberation) movements and struggles of the country and to take the Chhatra League forward.
Since she believed in Bangabandhu’s philosophy, Bangamata was always aware so that Father of the Nation could work for the country and its people without any hindrance, Dr Shirin added.
Bangamata with her political wisdom had suggested Bangabandhu not to be released from jail on parole as she had believed that the people of Bangla will make Father of the Nation free from jail, the speaker said.
Keeping the contributions of a woman with unique qualities like Bangamata in mind, Dr Shirin called upon the country’s womenfolk to move forward.
