The 1st Bangamata Asian Senior Women’s Central Zone International Volleyball Championship will begin on Saturday (November 9) at Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in the city’s Mirpur.
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury is expected to inaugurate the six-day meet as the chief guest.
Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan in the opening match of November 9 of the championship. The Bangladesh women’s volleyball team for the time of its kind is going to take part such kind of international meet.
Bangladesh will play their remaining matches against The Maldives, Nepal and Kyrgyzstan on November 10, 12 and 13 respectively.
The top two teams will lock horn in the final scheduled to be held on November 14 at 3 pm following the third-place deciding encounter at 1 pm.
Apart from hosts Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal, the Maldives and Kyrgyzstan will compete in the six-day meet, organized by BVF.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will perform the duty of organizing committee’s chairman of the tournament.
Agriculture Minister Mohammad Abdur Razzaque is expected to present in the closing ceremony of the tournament as the chief guest and distribute the prizes.
In this regards, a press conference was held on Thursday at Bangladesh Olympic Association Auditorium to provide all the details of the meet.
Bangladesh Volleyball Federation (BVF) BVF general secretary Ashikur Rahman Miku, tournament steering committee’s chairman Younus Group managing director Mohammad Younus and BVF member Mostafa Kamal were, among others, present on the occasion.
