UNB, Dhaka :
The historic Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed on Saturday in a befitting manner.
On January 10 in 1972, Bangabandhu returned to independent and sovereign Bangladesh after over nine and half months’ captivity in a Pakistan jail.
Since then, the day is being observed by the nation as the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was the
inspiration of the freedom fighters, was subjected to inhuman torture in the Pakistan jail where he had been counting moments for the execution of his death sentence that was pronounced in a farcical trial.
On the occasion, Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his portrait at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the city’s Dhanmondi in the morning.
The ruling party will hold a discussion at Suhrawardy Udyan at 2pm on Monday (January 12) marking the day where Sheikh Hasina will speak as the chief guest.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also issued separate messages on the occasion.
