The Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu was celebrated in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine upazilas in a befitting manner on Saturday as else where of the country. On this day in 1972, the Father of the Nation and supreme leader of the country’s Liberation War Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned to the soil of the independent Bangladesh from Pakistani jail. Although victory of nine-month War of liberation was achieved defeating the Pakistani forces on December 16, 1971, the nation’s expectations were fulfilled with Bangbandhu’s coming home on January 10, 1972.
Bagerhat District Unit of Bangladesh Awami League, the party in power and its associate bodies, other political parties and socio-cultural and professional organisations earlier chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.
Rajshahi Correspondent adds: Local unit of Bangladesh Awami League and its front organisations observed the Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner here on Saturday.
Marking the day, leaders and workers of the party hoisted national and party flags atop the party office and garlanded the portraits of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four other national leaders in the morning. They brought out a rally and paraded some of the city streets before being ended at the party office premises.
Besides, they held a discussion meeting highlighting the life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with his contribution to the nation’s War of Liberation. City Unit President of Rajshahi AL AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and some other front-ranking leaders spoke on the occasion.
