A meeting of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary anniversary observation committee was held with City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin in the chair the at the temporary office of the City Corporation Conference Room at Tigar Pass yesterday.
The meeting discussed about the programmes marking Bangabandhu’s birth anniversary that will be observed through the next year. The mayor said that the national committee will finalise the programmes that will be followed by us . The mayor said the program will be finalized in October. Besides, Bangabandhu came to Chittagong many times. In addition to political programmes, he has come to many social events. Bangabandhu had soul relations with Chattogram . Many memories here belong to the Father of the Nation. He has gone to many places by walking or rickshaws, he added
He added that selected posters, banners, lighting ,rally ,children gathering ,cultural programme and sports competition will be arranged throughout the year. A Mural of Bangabandhu will be built at Tigar Pass Hill. Only the portrait of Father of the Nation will be displayed . It is our great opportunity to highlight our city , rare picture will be collected for display . We must alert to put out posters and pictures.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief Executive Officer of City Corporation Mohammed Shamsuddoha, Chittagong Port Authority Member (Administration and Planning) Md. Zafar Alam, Secretary of the City Corporation Abu Shahed Chowdhury, Chief Engineer Lt. Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chief City Planner AKM Rezaul Karim, Chief Education Officer Suman Barua. Director of Theater Institute Chittagong (TIC), Ahmed Iqbal Haider.
AKM Rezaul Karim proposed to setting up the highest mural of Bangabandhu in addition to writing ‘Welcome to Chittagong’ in Bengali and English on Tiger Pass Hill.
In this regard, Md. Zafar Alam said, many people think that nothing can be done on the hill, it is a sin. The mountain has to be used scientifically. I have seen all over the world, they do not put mountains on 80 degree slopes. The natural beauty of Chattogram is suitable for living . Court building is the largest use of hills in Chittagong. The hill has been used beautifully at the Eye Hospital, Imperial Hospital and Asian Women’s University he added.
