State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Murad Hassan said Bangabandhu means Bangladesh as the great leader gifted an independent motherland to the repressed and persecuted Bangalee nation.
He said this while addressing a discussion marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children’s Day on Thursday at Betar Bhaban here.”Many people had fought for independence of this soil. Hajong revolt, Santhal rebellion, Titumirer Bansher Kella (bamboo fort), Faqir Majnu Shah waged Fakir-Sannyasi rebellion had took place. But nobody can gift a free and independent country,” he said.
Murad said only Bangabandhu was the first illustrious son of this soil, who not only showed the path of freedom but also gifted an independent motherland.
“Bangabandhu was the messenger of our freedom. So, the nation today firmly utters that Bangabandhu means Bangladesh,” he said. He underscored the need for disseminating the ideology of Bangabandhu among children and juvenile.
Chaired by Bangladesh Betar Director General Ahmed Quamruzzaman, the function was addressed by historian Dr. Syed Anwar Husain, Bangladesh Betar Additional Director General (programme) Salahuddin Ahmed, Chief Engineer Kazi Md Liakat Ali and Deputy Director General (news) ASM Zahid, among others.
