Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had introduced the bastion of Bangladesh’s victory spree in water, land and space.
“The establishment of the first satellite earth station at Betbunia and the inclusion of Bangladesh as a member of the UN Committee on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) had recognized the scientific and technological ideas of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he said.
The minister stated this on Thursday while addressing a function marking the second anniversary of broadcasting Bangladeshi channels through ‘Bangabandhu Satellite-1’ (BS-1) organised by Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) at a hotel in the capital.
Post and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, Post and Telecommunications Division Secretary Md Afzal Hossain and Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO) President Anjan Chowdhury, among others, addressed the function as special guests.
Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, said Bangladesh is the 57th country to launch geostationary communication satellite as the country’s first satellite ‘BS-I’ which was sent into orbit on May 11 in 2018. “We boast of using our own country’s satellite,” he added.
Telecommunications Minister Jabbar said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the precursor in using advance technology in the country. “Now, Bangladesh has been turned into a digital country under the dynamic leadership of Bangabandhu’s worthy, competent and visionary daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her ICT Affairs Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
