UNB, Dhaka :
An international airport, named after Bangladesh’s founding father, will be constructed near the Padma River, State Minister for Civil Aviation Mahbub Ali said on Tuesday.
“The government is going to construct Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujib International Airport to turn Bangladesh into an aviation hub,” he said at a meeting with Civil Aviation Authority officials in Dhaka’s Kurmitola.
“It will be a very modern airport,” the state minister said.
He said the government had started constructing the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, was upgrading Cox’s Bazar airport, and implementing mega projects for Sylhet International Airport’s development.
“Preparations are complete to upgrade Shahjalal airport into category one. The US Federal Aviation Authority will visit in March. We can start flights on the New York route once we get their approval,” he said.
Mahbub also assured that the quality of services of state-owned Biman Bangladesh Airline would be improved.
