Inspired by the ideals of the greatest Bengali of all time and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the inaugural campaign of the “Bangabandhu Inter-University Sports Champs-2019” is expected to begin on March 18 in the city.
The championship will be organised with the theme “Let’s build a Bangladesh in cognition of Bangabandhu” in participation with all public and private universities across the country, said a press release on Wednesday.
On the occasion of this event, in presence of the president of Bangabandhu Inter-University Champs 2019 advisory committee, the logo and website of “Bangabandhu Inter-University Sports Champs-2019” were formally unveiled on Wednesday at the conference room of National Sports Council.
Besides, a discussion (including the Torch Relay) regarding the competition was also held.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel, Convener of the
advisory committee Nahim Razzaq, MP, its member secretary and Secretary of
the Ministry of Youth Muhammad Abdullah and officials of different federations and sports related personnel were present, among others, in the logo unveiling ceremony.
Starting with a grand opening ceremony at the country’s premier venue Bangabandhu National Stadium, almost 3,500 students from 70 universities are expected to participate in the inaugural campaign consisting of 10 major events (Football, Cricket, Swimming, Athletics, Table Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Cycling and Badminton).
The events will continue for a whole month at the universities across the country.
The top three winners of each event will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals respectively while the highest gold medal winners male and female participants will be awarded a “Best University Athlete- Male” and “Best University Athlete- Female” trophies respectively.
Besides, the highest Gold medal winning university will be awarded the “Bangabandhu Inter-University Sports Champs 2019 – Champions”.
The organisers will arrange “Torch Relay” and “Trophy Tour” with the all participant universities before the mega event.
“Bangabandhu Inter-University Champs 2019” is going to be organised in purposes of society empowerment, skill-development and achieving more excellence in sports.
With direction of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh with technical assistance and supervision of 10 federations (Bangladesh Cricket Board, Bangladesh Football Federation, Bangladesh Athletics Federation, Bangladesh Badminton Federation, Bangladesh Basketball Federation, Bangladesh Volleyball Federation, Bangladesh Handball Federation, Bangladesh Cycling Federation, Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation and Bangladesh Swimming Federation), with all universities’ participation and with private patronage, Spellbound Leo Burnett, the event partner, has taken all preparation to complete the event.
The Convener of the advisory committee of the Bangabandhu Inter-University Champs 2019 Nahim Razzaq said, “On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, this initiative has been taken to build the nation inspired by the ideals and cognitions of him and to keep the vigor and fervor of the youth elevated.
Besides, the main goals and purposes of the event are to abstain the students of different universities across the country from antisocial activities like drug addiction and militancy and to comprise themselves as a sensible and effective patriotic citizen, inspired by the ideals of Bangabandhu and by practicing sports culture.”
The Chief Operating Officer of Polar Ice-cream said this kind of event will play a leading role in turning the youth power as an enthusiastic, hard-working, well-organised, disciplined and productive one.
Zahid Ahsan Russel said, “The participating students and lakh of sports-loving students will be confident in building an enriched country with sports madness. Inspired by the ideals of Bangabandhu, in oath of building a drug-free Bangladesh and to build a developed Bangladesh within 2041, we expect that this is going to be a great stage to create the youth as a healthy and hard-working one.”
The championship is expected to conclude on April 17.
