Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Prof Dr Gowher Rizvi has said Bangabandhu’s vision was well-articulated in the 1972 constitution of Bangladesh which he believed need to be followed to materialise Bangabandhu’s dream of Sonar Bangla – a secular, just and egalitarian Bangladesh.
He made the remarks while addressing a webinar on “Bangabandhu’s Vision of Sonar Bangla: Bangladesh at 50” on Sunday. Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organised the webinar at BIISS.
Major General Md Emdadul Bari, Director General, BIISS, chaired the webinar. He delivered the welcome address and concluding remarks.
Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Chairman of PKSF, made a presentation on “Transformation of Economic Policies and Outcomes”. Professor Dr Mustafizur Rahman, Distinguished Fellow, CPD, gave the presentation on “From Aid to Trade Dependence”.
Dr Binayak Sen, Research Director, BIDS, spoke on “Poverty Alleviation and Social Progress”. Dr Mahfuz Kabir, Research Director, BIISS, presented on “Development Trajectories and Imperatives for Vision 2041”.
The speakers focused on Bangabandhu’s efforts towards making his dream of -‘Sonar Bangla’, ‘Switzerland of the East’ – a reality, immediately after the independence.
What Bangabandhu instituted during his tenure were not merely damage-control measures but a prudent prescription for socio-economic emancipation, said the speakers.
They also highlighted Bangabandhu’s initiatives to empower people for building of an inclusive society.
Senior officials from different ministries, ambassadors and high commissioners, senior civil and military officials, media, academia, teachers and students from different universities participated in the webinar and gave valuable comments and suggestions.
