Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon on Thursday said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had dreamt of turning country’s tourism capital Cox’s Bazaar into a hub of global meetings to hold major international summits around the year.
“After Mass Upsurge of 1969, Bangabandhu told me – I (Bangabandhu) will make Bangladesh independent someday and turn Cox’s Bazaar into an international tourist spot as like as Switzerland,” Menon recalled when addressing a discussion meeting marking the National Mourning Day at Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) here.
Recalling Bangaban-dhu’s memories marking the 42nd anniversary of his martyrdom, Menon said one day he was passing by Bangabandhu’s residence at Dhanmondi after the mass upsurge in 1969 while Bangabandhu was walking in front of the house. “Bangabandhu called me and one of my companions to inquire about our wellbeing, he said adding “during our conversation Bangaban-dhu told us about his dream regarding Cox’s Bazaar.”
Terming Bangabandhu as the Father of Bangladesh Tourism industry. Menon said “Bangabandhu had established Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation to make tourism as one of the major tools of economic activities,” he said.
