Bangabandhu DPL begins today

Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Cricket begins today. DPL, the most prestigious domestic cricket meet of the country will take place at the different venues. This year’s DPL will be held marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Walton is the title sponsor of the meet. This year’s DPL will be held Twenty-over-a-side instead of 50-over-a-side due to coronavirus situation of the country.
Dhaka Abahani Limited will face Partex Sporting Club in the formal inaugural match of the DPL Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in the city’s Mirpur.
Everyday six matches will be held at the separate venues.
Most of the star batsmen of the country will compete in this year’s DPL. Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das will play for Dhaka Abahani Limited, while Shakib Al Hasan and Taskin Ahmed will play for Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited. Dashing opener Tamim Iqbal will play for Prime Bank Cricket Club and Mahmudullah Riyad will play for Gazi Group Cricketers. Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will play for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited and Mehidy Hasan Miraz will play for Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity.
Marking the upcoming cricket competition, a press conference was held at the SBNCS on Sunday. Chairman of the Media Committee of BCB Jalal Younus, Chairman of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) Kazi Inam Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BCB Nizamuddin Chowdhury Sujan, Executive Director of Walton Group Uday Hakim were present at the conference, among others.
Kazi Inam Ahmed said, ” The Bangabandhu Premier League will start for Monday. The DPL will be held T20 format to mark the ensuing World Cup T20 Cricket. Walton Group is the sponsor of the cricket competition. Walton Group has been sponsoring the DPL for nine years.”
