The ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Complex’ will be built in Sylhet in the name of the architect of independence Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. For the first time in the country any such initiative has been taken. The construction of this complex will cost one and a half thousand crore rupees. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given initial approval to the project. The project is now awaiting budget approval from the finance ministry.
Information about the construction of ‘Bangabandhu Complex’ in Sylhet was presented for the first time on January 29 this year. On the same day, Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury brought the issue to the fore in a program titled ‘Development Progress’ organized by Sylhet City Corporation (CSIC). Local government minister Tajul Islam and foreign minister. AK Abdul Momen was present.
Mayor Arif also mentioned the issue in the budget of SCC for the fiscal year 2021-22. The design of the 25-storey complex has also been finalized. Designed by an organization called Triangle Consultant. Architect Shakur Majid is involved with this.
According to SCC plan, ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Complex’ will be constructed at the site of Hasan Market and Laldighi City Super Market in Bandarbazar area of Sylhet city. This modern installation will cover an area of about 15 acres. Apart from his memory, there will be symbolic representations of language movement, six-point movement, mass uprising, liberation war and other freedom movements of Bangladesh in ‘Bangabandhu Chattar’.
According to the concerned, a sculpture will be erected in the ‘Bangabandhu Complex’ in the style of the historic speech given by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 7, 1971 by raising his index finger on the racecourse ground.
There will be a museum of documentary memorabilia of the liberation war, cineplex, auditorium, one thousand seat convention hall in ‘Bangabandhu Plaza’. There will also be a park named after Sheikh Russell.
The concerned people are paying special attention to the entertainment system of the people in this complex to be built. For this, there will be a citizens’ compound in the complex. An open stage will be kept for cultural events. The complex will have 342 stalls for open park, book fair or cottage industry fair. With the help of social, cultural and commercial establishments, the complex will become a sight to behold. The lampposts of this complex will be the tradition of Sylhet in the form of two leaves-one bud.
Meanwhile, a modern six-storey market will be constructed within the complex to rehabilitate those currently doing business at Hasan Market and Laldighi City Super Market.
It is learned that the city corporation took initiative to build ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Complex’ in Sylhet. After preparing the design and finalizing the project proposal, the Foreign Minister of Sylhet-1 constituency Dr. AK Abdul Momen applied to the ‘Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust’ in June this year. The president of this trust is Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Regarding the complex, City Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury said, “We have taken a step forward in the construction of the largest Bangabandhu Complex in Sylhet in the name of the great architect of independence, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
” We believe that the completion of this 25-storey commercial hub, which will be constructed at a cost of around Tk 1.5 billion, will lead to unprecedented progress in the trade and commerce of the Sylhet metropolitan city.
