The Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket begins at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur today. BBS Cables Limited is the title sponsor of the BPL Cricket, which powered by Walton Group. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has arranged the cricket tournament.
Fortune Barishal will take on Chattogram Challengers in the day’s first match, which starts at 1.30pm, while Khulna Tigers will face Minister Group Dhaka in the day’s second match, which begins at 6.30pm. Private satellite sports channel T Sports and private satellite channel GTV will telecast the matches live from the venue.
A total of six teams will take part in the round-robin league basis twenty-20-over-a-side cricket meet, the most prestigious cricket tournament of the country. They are: Fortune Barishal, Chattogram Challengers, Khulna Tigers, Comilla Victorians, Minister Group Dhaka and Sylhet Sunrisers.
The gala cricket competition will be held at the three venues across the country. They are: Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram and Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet. The champions will be awarded a cash of Taka one crore, while the runners-up will get Taka fifty lakh. No spectators will be allowed to watch the matches due to coronavirus situation of the country. The cricket tournament will come to an end on February 18.
Marking the ensuing gala cricket competition, a press briefing was held in the conference room of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nizamuddin Chowdhury, Director of BCB and Member of BPL Governing Council Ismail Haider Mallick, Chairman of BBS Cables Limited Engineer Abu Noman Hawlader, Managing Director of BBS Cables Limited Engineer Mohammad Badrul Hasan and Senior Executive Director of Walton Group Uday Hakim spoke at the conference. They also showed the name of the sponsor during the programme.
The gala extravaganza will be held marking the Birth Centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
