Bangabandhu & Bangamata Football begin in Gaibandha

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Boys’ Under-17) and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Girls’ Under-17)- 2021 began on Sunday.
The district administration and the Ministry of Youth and Sports are jointly hosting the five-day tournament at Freedom Fighters Memorial Stadium in Gaibandha.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gaibandha district Abdul Matin formally inaugurated the tournaments as the chief guest.
Among others, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Towhidul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sadequr Rahman, General Secretary of the district Awami League Abu Bakar Siddque and District Sports Officer Alamgir Hossain, Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Matlubour Rahman, President of the district Football Association Golam Maruf Mona were present on the occasion.
DC Abdul Matin said more talented football players are expected to come out from the tournaments and they will play in national teams. The present government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing diversified programmes to elevate the country’s sports sector, he added.
In the first match of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Boys’ Under-17) Gaibandha Sadar upazila beat Shaghata upazila team by 4-3 goal through tie breaker.
Earlier, the match became 1-1 draw.
On the other hand, in the first match of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Girls’ Under-17)- Gaibandha Sadar upazila defeated Fulchhari upazila by 3-1 goals.
