The Bangabandhu Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone International Volleyball Championship began at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Saturday.
Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, MP, inaugurated the volleyball tournament by releasing the balloons as the chief guest, while State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikder, MP, President of Bangladesh Cricket Board Nazmul Hasan Papon, MP, Elias Uddin Mollah, MP, Advocate Saiduzzaman Shekhor, APS to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, were with him as special guests.
President of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation (BVF) Md Atiqul Islam, Vice-President of BVF AH Aslam Sunny, General Secretary of BVF Ashiqur Rahman Miku were present, among others.
A total of six teams splitting into two groups are taking part in the mega volleyball competition. Hosts Bangladesh Maldives, Nepal are in Group-A, while Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan are in Group-B.
