The four-day Bangabandhu and Swadhinata Book Fair -2021 kicked off today on Town Hall premises in the city aiming at encouraging the young generations to become book lovers and writers. The district administration is organizing the four-day book fair in collaboration with the overall management of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Local Government Division.The book fair is being arranged as a part of the nationwide program at the initiative of the National Implementation Committee to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) of Rangpur Md. Zakir Hossain inaugurated the book fair by releasing a balloon with a festoon and cutting a ribbon at the launching function as the chief guest.
With Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan in the chair, district Awami League President Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, former Head of the Department of Bangla of Rangpur Government Begum Rokeya College Professor Mohammad Shah Alam and President of Rangpur Press Club Mahbub Rahman attended the function as special guests.
Member-secretary of the book fair implementation committee Abed Hossain, its Members Zakir Ahmed, Rezaul Karim Jiban, Manjil Murad Lavlu, Shakil Masud, Sayeed Sahedul Islam, Motiar Rahman, among others, were present.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) AWM Raihan Shah delivered a welcome speech at the function.
A total of 41 stalls have been set up on the book fair premises by Bangla Academy, 20 publications houses of Rangpur and Dhaka and local literary organizations.
People can visit the four-day book fair daily from 2 pm to 10 pm.
In addition to daily competitions on poem recitations, recitation of self-composed poems and cultural programs, competitions for children on drawing, debate and quiz are being arranged daily in the book fair.
