Awami League Presidium Member and Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton on Monday said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangladesh are parallel, correlated and indifferent.
“Knowing about Bangabandhu is imperative to know about Bangladesh and it will be easy to know about Bangladesh when he or she will know about Bangabandhu,” he came up with the observation while addressing a discussion on “Bangabandhu and Bangladesh” at Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Rajshahi as the chief guest.
Rajshahi city unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad organized the discussion to mark the National Mourning Day.
With former commander of the unit Dr Abdul Mannan in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by city unit president of Bangabandhu Parishad Prof Nurul Alam, former state minister Prof Zinatunnessa Talukder, President of the Kabikunja Prof Ruhul Amin Pramanik and city unit president of Bangladesh Awami League Muhammad Ali Kamal, reports BSS.
Paying rich tributes to Bangabandhu and other martyred of August 15, City Mayor Liton said the assassination of Bangabandhu along with his family members was not a mere killing rather it was a heinous crime against humanity.
He said general Ziaur Rahman was one of the main kingpins of the brutal killing. Khandakar Mostaq made Zia as the chief of army, he said, adding even, Zia enacted the indemnity ordinance after the killing to stop the trial of the carnage.
Later, he (Zia) rehabilitated the killers by giving foreign assignments, he added.
