Shirin Akter of Bangladesh Navy broke the national record in the women’s 200 metre sprint on Sunday. She earned gold medal in this event at the Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. She took 24.20 seconds to break the record. Earlier, Beauty Akhter made the record in this event taking 24.30 seconds in the year of 2006.
Sharifa Khatun of Bangladesh Army bagged silver medal in this event taking 24.50 seconds. Kabita Roy of Bangladesh Ansar & VDP earned bronze medal taking 25.90 seconds.
After breaking the record Shirin Akter said, ” I feel well after making the new record. I broke the record of Beauty Apu. My hard work fetch me this place. I have bagged gold medal in 200 metre sprit for the third consecutive times. Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA), Bangladesh Navy, BKSP and the journalists contributed for me to become this position.”
Meanwhile, Nayeem Islam of Bangladesh Air Force bagged gold medal in the men’s 200 metre sprint on the same day. He took 21.70 seconds to finish his sprint. Shoriful of Bangladesh Army gained silver medal in this event taking 21.80 seconds. Motaleb of Bangladesh Army bagged bronze medal in this event taking 22.20 seconds.
Naeem said, ” I took part in the athletics from my boyhood. I have enjoyed athletics very much. I want to bring success for my country in future in the international meet.”
