Bangabandhu 5th Central South Asian (SA) Artistic Gymnastics Championship 2021 will go underway from October 27 with six nations including hosts Bangladesh will take part in the international meet.
Bangladesh Gymnastics Federation is organising the competition to observe the birth centenary of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Meanwhile, the logo of the competition was unveiled on Saturday with State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP, was the chief guest at Dhaka Club.
Following the logo unveiling programme the organisers disclosed all about the championship in a press meet.
The competition will start from October 28 following the inaugural ceremony will be held on October 27 with the Minister for Foreign affairs Dr Abdul Momen will be chief guest to open the tournament, while Zahid Ahsan Russel will present as the special guest.
One of the big attraction of the competition will be Margarita Mamun, a Bangladeshi born Russian gymnast, who won gold in the Rio Olympics 2016 will be present in the championship.
President of the Gymnastics Federation (BGF) Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Mamun informed that the competition was scheduled to take place in 2020 with 10 nations but due to Covid-19 situation of the country they had to deferred it to 2021 and manage five foreign teams.
Apart from the hosts Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka are the teams from abroad will take part in the competition.
A total of 177 gymnasts will compete for 22 gold medals in the 22 events in three categories with men’s senior, men’s junior and women.
Bangladesh will compete in the three events with 12 gymnasts vie for medals.
In the logo unveiling ceremony Zahid Ahsan Russel said that they had inter-ministry meeting to make this international competition a success.
Russel said, “It’s very much appreciated that the federation taking the initiative and prepared to organise the international competition in this Covid-19 situation. We will provide all support from the ministry to make the competition a successful one.”
