The 65 days ban on fishing in the Bay of Bengal ended at midnight on Tuesday. The fishermen of Chattogram are getting ready to start fishing as ban on fishing in the Bay imposed on May 20 ended.
The ban was first introduced in 2015 to preserve fish stock and ensure proper breeding. The restriction comes into effect every year for a specified period.The govt had provided 40 kilograms of rice monthly to each of 4,14,784 fishermen families in 42 upazilas of 12 coastal districts during the ban from May 20 to July 23.Nearly 50,000 families of fishermen depend on fishing in the Bay. Catching, carrying, hoarding, trading and transportation of all kinds of fishes were banned during the period and the authorities concerned urged all to co-operate with the administration in order to meet their goal.
