Bamboos used as pillars to tackle hospital bldg collapse in Jessore

To tackle the building collapse of a old building of Jessore General Hospital, some bamboos were used as temporary pillars by the authority.
Confirming the information, Dr Wahiduzzman Litu, residential medical officer of the hospital told 10 pieces of bamboos were used as temporary support to avoid any casualties as damaged were developed in the roof and some pillars of the old building constructed in Pakistan era.
Hospital sources said there are four wards in the two- story building including surgery and ortho-surgery on the ground floor and gynea and women wards on the second floor. Over 100 patients are being treated there now.
Tariqul Islam, sub assistant engineer, department of housing on charge of hospitals told that three pillars and inner portion of the roof of the building were badly damaged.
The women medicine ward was shut by the then superintendent of the hospital Dr Hasan- Al -Mamun as cracks were developed in the roof in 2007. Dr Hasan was suspended for the reason at that time. The building was opened for patients further later, sources said.
