Bamboo turns into boon for women

Bamboo, the fastest growing planet has been a real boon to some seventy families at Char Maisadi village in Kamlapur Union under Patuakhali District selling Bamboo made products, which are widely used both in urban and rural areas. The poor artisans have become financially solvent over the years.
Now, Bamboo craft has become the main profession of the rural poor women. And they have directly engaged themselves in making bamboo products to earn a living.
The rural artisans of the village make fine quality bamboo products such as Hand-fan, basket, Flower vase, winnow, chaloni, Chatai and different types of Mat, Each of these artisans earns around Tk 10,000-15,000 a month by selling these bamboo made products. The made members of an artisan family generally collect materials from different sources, while the women make the products. The artisans sell their products mainly in local markets.
Gita Rani told the New Nation, that they all had become financially solvent by selling bamboo products, the business goes on in the same way round the year. But Baishakh and Jaistha, the first two months in the Bengali Colanders, are the boom time for Handicrafts business in the District.
