Bam Morcha wants judicial probe over attack on Road March

Staff Reporter :Ganotantrik Bam Morcha, a platform of some left leaning organisations, on Tuesday demanded judicial probe into the repeated attack on their “Road March” to the Sundarbans.The left leaning political parties arranged the Road March as a mark of protest against setting up of a power plant near the Sundarbans. “We demand judicial probe into the attack by the police and ruling party men on our activists,” said Syful Haque, Coordinator of the platform.The attack exposed government’s undemocratic and autocratic attitude, he told the media while speaking at a press conference in the Comrade Nirmal Sen Auditorium in Dhaka. “At least 40 leaders and activists of the platform were injured last week,” he said. They started their march from Dhaka in a bid to stop construction of the Rampal Power Plant Project, considered a threat to the Sundarbans.It (the government) claims that democracy is its motto, but in reality they practise the policy of repression,” said Saiful, also General Secretary of Biplobi Workers’ Party. “The government is going ahead with the Rampal power plant project despite opposition from several national and international organisations, including the UNESCO,” he said.
