This week sees the release of two films – Neeraj Ghaywan’s Masaan and Biswajeet Bora’s Aisa Yeh Jahaan. Today also marks the beginning of Bajrangi Bhaijaan’s 2nd week and Baahubali’s 3rd week in screens. The critically acclaimed and award-winning Masaan, starring Richa Chadha, Vicky Kaushal and Shweta Tripathi, has gained excellent word of mouth and can look forward to some traffic at the ticket windows. Aisa Yeh Jahaan, starring Palash Sen and Ira Dubey, does not have as much positive response backing its release and may tank commercially. As far as Bajrangi Bhaijaan is concerned, with little competition at the box-office, the film can continue its splendid run in screens so far. After a smash-hit weekend, the film performed consistently all week. Facing only a 2% drop on Monday, the film collected Rs 27.05 crore, followed by Rs 21.40 crore on Tuesday, 18.02 crore on Wednesday and Rs 15.55 crore on Thursday. Shattering records all over, including many of Salman Khan’s own box-office successes, the film’s domestic earnings so far stand at Rs 184.62 crore, the highest for any film so far this year. It is also the second highest week one total for any Bollywood film, with Dhoom:3 still reigning in the first position with Rs 188.98 crore.Internationally too, Bajrangi Bhaijaan has been minting money and has been received well across the board. With Rs 78 crore so far in overseas earnings, the film’s total earnings worldwide stand at Rs 262.62 crore.Baahubali’s (Hindi version) success run was slowed down by Bajrangi Bhaijaan’s release but the film has managed to hold its own at the box-office. After the Hindi dubbed version garnered Rs 13.35 crore in its second weekend, the film picked up on Monday and earned Rs 3.82 crore, which was higher than the second Friday (Rs 3.25 crore).
