BCL internal conflict: Baishakhi concert stage set on fire

A faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Dhaka University unit, allegedly torched a stage on Saturday night which was ready to celebrate Pahela Baishakh concert on Mol Chottor on the University campus.
They also vandalized around 13 refrigerators of the sponsor company. In order to dominate campus, a group of BCL activists set fire on the stage, campus sources said.
According to witnesses, the activists set fire to several stalls, concert stage and vandalized promotional placards and banners sponsored by Mojo and Frutika.
Majority BCL leaders said that the supporters of BCL President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon were behind the incident.
Sir A F Rahman Hall unit General Secretary Mahmudul Hasan Tusher’s room was vandalized after the incident. Tusher held Saddam Hossain, DU unit General Secretary behind this vandalization.
Shovon’s followers claimed that they were not informed about the concert.
On the other hand, BCL central Secretary Golam Rabbani declined the allegation and said, “this program is going to be organized by DU BCL unit and DUCSU platform. As Shovon didn’t carry any post of DUCSU, he was not told.”
DUCSU VP Nur said, “Chhatra League men have usually been involved in such incidents on the campus and who are involved in the incident should be identified and brought under the purview of law immediately. DU Proctor Dr. A.K.M. Golam Rabbani said that they are looking into the matter and the identities of the attackers are not yet to be confirmed.
