At least five communities in Khagrachhari hill district have celebrated “Baishabi”, the biggest festival centring the Bangla New Year in the area. The programme formally started on Thursday last and will continue till April 17 next.
Khagrachhari Hill District Council (KHDC), Khagrachhari district administration, Khagrachhari Tribal Cultural Institute, Marma Unnayon Sangsad, Bangladesh Marma Sanghathan Oikya Parishad, Bangladesh Tripura Sangsad and other socio-cultural organisations have chalked out week-long programmes as part of the celebration which include ‘Baishu’ of Tripura community, ‘Sangrain’ of Marma community, ‘Bizu’ of Chakma community, and Chaitra Sangkranti of Bengali community at different spots under nine upazilas of the district.
