Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam on Thursday asked the recruiting agencies to take government fixed migration cost of Tk 1.6 lakh from each worker for going to Malaysia.
“The government has fixed migration cost of Tk 1.6 lakh for each worker for sending them to Malaysia. There is no scope to take extra fees from them. Otherwise, you (recruiting agencies) would have to face action,” he said.
The Minister came up with the remarks while inaugurating ‘One Stop Service Centre for Malaysia bound Workers’ at head office of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) at Eskaton Road in the city.
He also urged the country’s aspirant migrant workers not to pay the agencies more than the government fixed migration cost for the Malaysian job under Government to Government Plus mechanisms.
Nurul Islam asked the victim workers to lodge allegations at the ministry directly or put their accusations at the fixed ‘Complaint Box’ at Probashi Kalyan Bhaban to take action.
The Minister expressed his happiness for reopening the Malaysian labour market for Bangladeshi workers after a break of nine years.
BAIRA President Benjir Ahmed, who presided over the inaugural session, said that the government should extend its cordial cooperation towards recruiting agencies to send more workers abroad without facing any hassles.
BAIRA Secretary General Ruhul Amin said that though ten recruiting agencies have just started resuming the Malaysian market, the rest of all agencies would also be able to collect visas and send their workers to Malaysia.
He said that the BAIRA and the Ministry were jointly working to introduce online payment system of migration cost to slash the involvement of middlemen.
By which the recruiting agencies would be able to send workers to Malaysia at Tk 1.6 lakh per person, he said.
Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training Director General Salim Reza said that overseas employment has exceeded 10 lakh to Malaysia on Thursday and he thanked the BAIRA members for their cooperation in this regard.
