Bail plea of former army officer rejected

 A court in Chittagong rejected the bail petition of a former army officer Major(Retd) Arif Ahmed.
He was arrested for alleged attempt of kidnapping a businessman impersonating himself as RAB officer. Metropolitan Judge of Chittagong SM Mujibur Rahman rejected the bail petition and sent him to jail custody.
 Court sources said the counsels of the accused prayed for bail of Arif mentioning him as mentally disordered man and bail is essential for his better treatment but court rejected the petition. This is fourth time that court rejected the bail petition. Police sources said a group of miscreant led by former army office tried to kidnap one businessman named Golam Rabbani from Pathantooly Chowmuhani area on May 18 last at about 10 pm but the local people resisted their attempt of abduction. The local people caught red-handed Md. Arif and gave him mass beating who later handed over to police. Other accomplices of Arif fled away quickly from the spot in a private car, sources said. Arif was residing in a rental flat at Halishahar residential area.
